description

Documentary II, 1

Close to the border between India and Myanmar is the village of Phek in Nagaland. Around 5,000 people live here, and almost all of them cultivate rice. While they work together – prepare the soil, plant saplings, harvest the grain and carry it up impossibly steep slopes – the rice farmers of Phek sing. As seasons change, so does the music, entrancing everday life. The love they sing about is also a metaphor for needing one another – friends, family, community. They are stories on love, fields, and music. The film is a musical portrait of a community of rice farmers and their memories of love and loss. It is the first feature-length film by the u-ra-mi-li project which deals with the interaction between music and work.
