Ayurveda: The Indian Art of Healing and Living
Ayurveda – “the knowledge of a long and healthy life” is one of humankind’s oldest holistic healing methods. It originated more than 3,000 years ago from the Vedas, the probably oldest of holy scriptures in the world. But above all, Ayurveda is life-oriented. Throughout the millennia, the basic idea has remained unchanged: Health means to live in harmony with body, mind, soul, one’s own behaviour, and the environment. Therefore Ayurveda medicine does not aim at intervening directly with the organism, but rather at restoring the balance of physiological energies, to thus activate the body’s self-healing powers. By what means the balance of the three bio-energies (also known as doshas) can be restored, is described in the standard work ‘The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies’. With his untiring pioneer work, author and Ayurveda doctor Dr Vasant Lad considerably raised the level of awareness of the holistic medicine beyond India. Today, Ayurveda is one of the most popular and widely spread alternative healing methods in the world.
