Elaine Niessner was born in Friedrichshafen in 1984. She completed an internship with the children’s series ‘fabrixx’ and had her first job in the film business as a boom operator for the film ‘Das Leben der Philosophen’ by Maran Film. In 2005, she began to study toward a bachelor’s degree at Stuttgart Media University where she made two animated films and her degree project ‘Rote Trauben’. Elaine worked on a documentary film in India and afterwards began to study toward a master’s degree in Australia. During the one-year course, she shot the feature film ‘Stage Fright’ (working title) as her degree project. Back in Germany, she completed her Master’s programme at Stuttgart Media University with the thesis ‘International Co-Productions in the Feature Film Industry with Special Emphasis on Germany and Australia’. While she was still a student, she founded the production company East End Films together with her brother Tommy.
