Kanwal Sethi was born in Amritsar, India. After finishing the school, he founded an Afro-Indian theatre group and began to stage at various independent theatres. He studied Political Science and Economics in Dresden, Germany.
After travelling extensively, he worked for example as assistant director, followed by his own stage productions for various independent theatres. Parallel to this he started working on his own film projects. His short and documentary movies were screened at various international film festivals as well as the Museum of Modern Art New York. ‘Junction Point’ (2011) was his debut feature film and premiered at the Max Öphuls Film Festival Saarbrücken.
